This past weekend, my husband and I celebrated 6 years of blissful marriage! It’s so funny to think it’s been 6 years since we said “I do” and some days it feels like an eternity ago, some days like it was just yesterday. Either way, I feel so blessed to have this man by my side through thick and thin. I can’t imagine life without him.
This past weekend I celebrated another anniversary–my 3rd year as a health and fitness coach. Oddly enough, my wedding anniversary is what led me to becoming a coach. It was three years ago, on our anniversary, that I grabbed my wedding dress out of the closet and tried it on for the first time since our wedding night. What I discovered, or maybe I should say, what I already knew, was that I had really let my health slip away. I couldn’t even zip the dress, which of course led to tears. My sweet husband didn’t know what to do or say, he just told me he loved me no matter what! Another aspect of this story, that I won’t go into detail with in this particular post is our IVF journey. I was coming off of several fertility treatments that had left my body extremely bloated from the high doses of fertility drugs, and with a lot of weight gain. Let’s save that topic for another day.
Later that day, in my depressive state, I was mindlessly scrolling through Facebook and came across a post from an acquaintance who was showing off her post-baby body. She looked amazing! As I read her post, she was talking about following an at-home fitness program with 30 minutes workouts. I was like, say whaaaat, thirty minutes got you into that shape!? She also talked about having an online support system that was helping to keep her accountable and on track and her mentor had helped her learn how to eat to fuel her body, which was a big contributing factor in her weight loss. I wanted in, like YESTERDAY!
I reached out privately, and long story short, after discussing my own health goals, she helped me choose an at-home fitness program that was right for me. I anxiously awaiting the delivery of my package, and within a few days I was working out in the comforts of my own home and on my journey towards better health. Within the first 24 hours of my first workout, some healthier food options and my first superfood smoothie, I was already feeling better. Within the first week I had lost 7 lbs, and after 21 days I lost a total of 15 lbs.! From home, just 30 minutes a day, with the support that I had been missing for so long. This was the solution that worked for me and continues to work for me.
I want to make sure that I show gratitude to my mentor and friend for guiding me every step of this journey. She taught me so much in those first weeks, helped answer my questions, kept me in check and supported me when I needed it the most. Because of her, I am now living a much healthier and happier life. The habits I have learned have positively impacted so many around me, including my husband. I don’t like to think of what the status of my health would be without this opportunity.
Because of my positive experience in my online health support group, I decided to become a mentor myself. I know this works!
